Knocked Up By The Bad Boy By: Vanessa Waltz

Synopsis:
The last thing I need is a wife and kid.

The only settling down I do is at night, when I take a girl home to f*ck. I get laid to unwind from the chaos in my life. I live to hear them scream my name, but one night is all they get.

One night was all I needed.

Until I knocked up Maya.

It was supposed to be one night. But one wild night made me want another, and another. I’m addicted to every inch of her body. Now that I have her, I can’t let her go. I thought I never wanted a family, but now I can’t imagine life without one.

Only, there’s a problem.

Her father wants me dead.

I didn’t know she was his daughter.
I don’t give a damn.
She’s mine. Our child is mine. I protect what's mine.
Even if it means war.

Maya grew up in a prison of a home. Her father is the President of the local MC and has all these rules for how his family should live which is basically not at all. Maya is a wild spirit she knows there is much more to the world then the limited view her father has shown her. Family is everything and outside of family all are considered enemies. What happens when Maya sleeps with public enemy number 1? What’s a girl to do when you never have been loved so good but your family is all you ever known?

Johnny if you remember him from the first book is a bit of jerk. Not that he isn’t in this book but readers get to see more of Johnny as the man instead of the mob boss. He has been married twice and never felt anything for the other women as he has for Maya. He introduces her to a world of freedom sexually and emotionally. Just when he has everything he thought was denied enemies attack and they come in the form of family.

I understand Maya has been sheltered in a sense but when will she stand up for herself? Her father is abusive and her mother just watches and justifies his behavior. When she finally gets free she puts herself back in danger. I really wanted her to get a backbone at some point. She had all this courage with Johnny but nothing when it came to her father who put her through hell. Johnny being the bad boy he is will not tolerate disrespect from anyone and I loved that he stood up for Maya and made her face some harsh truths. The ending felt a bit rushed and the timeline was a little up in the air. One minute she was pregnant then the next scene the kid was 2 years old. I wish as a reader we got to see more of Johnny and Maya as a couple instead of sex scenes after a while they were redundant. This wasn’t my favorite story. I just felt as though it could have been more fleshed out because there was good material it was just glossed over with sex scenes. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

I’ve got a funny story for you. A funny story I need to get off my chest. I can’t share it with any of my friends, so I’m sharing it on a kinky message board full of strangers. Well, it is the Internet.... Although the Internet provides a sense of anonymity, names have been changed to protect the innocent (and not so innocent). Job-related details have been distorted to protect my identity, but despite the ambiguous details, this is a true story. A story very worthy of the acronym FML. *Disclaimer* This is a short erotic comedy. Not a novelette, novella, or novel, but a short story. Ironic is the first installment in The Kinky Connect Chronicles. The Kinky Connect Chronicles are short erotic stories all wrapped up in a neat little bow. No cliffhangers in the lot!

There’s no reason for a single, thirty-five-year-old woman with intellect, a sense of humor, her own apartment, and a body to die for—such as myself—to not be getting laid on the regular. Well, aside from the fact that I haven’t had much time to date.
I do happy hours, and I go out with my girlfriends when I can spare the time, but still, a steady guy hasn’t happened. What Jason and I have is nice, but he’s not the long-term guy. And as appealing as the opposites-attract ideology is, in an election year, we’d likely want to kill each other. I’ve been told I’m too picky. Why is that always the case? Why do women always get called out for having standards? Like we’re just supposed to fall for any guy who gives us the time of day? Whatever.
My philosophy? Why the heck shouldn’t I be picky? Picking a new man is like selecting a new purse. When you have the means to acquire top quality, you don’t go for bargain-basement brands. Aim high, ladies, aim high. If you can afford the cream of the crop, why not indulge?
I know my worth, so I hold out. One day I just might get lucky, but I’m a realist. There’s no breath-holding over here. True love is overrated. Until a suitable prospect comes along, emergency dick will do just fine.
The closer it gets to one in the morning, the antsier I become. I try to forge ahead with my Good Wife marathon, but I find my attention span isn’t what it was a few hours earlier. Julianna will understand; we can reconvene at a later date.
When I get up for a glass of water, the smooth cashmere moving over my naked flesh makes every step toward the kitchen agonizing. My clit pulsates as the material caresses my nipples. The water quenches my thirst, but I need something stronger. I’m naked, single, and horny in the wee hours of the morning. Bad, bad, bad.

Summer 2011

No more than thirteen years old, a girl in hand-me downs and ill-fitting shoes stomped down the sidewalk. Everywhere her plain brown eyes landed was brokenness.

The row houses that made up her run-down neighborhood were broken.

The few cars parked along the curb belonging to people who used the vehicles as temporary shelters when they couldn’t afford the rent were broken.

And the neighbors … The neighbors were the worst. Their entire beings were broken. Their minds crumbled by choices they were pushed by life to make. Their physical bodies aged before their time by lack of access to quality food choices. Their psyches irreparably damaged by parents who were stuck in a generational cycle they didn’t have the tools to break through.

            Broken.

Everyone who lived in this part of town was broken.

And what did brokenness lead to?

Without a backward glance, she ran from the home where just weeks prior she had found her parents with their mouths agape, forearms corded off, and needles sticking from their veins.

            She ran from her brokenness.

The teen rounded a corner and slowed her pace to a cool, unaffected gait before she approached the men who were huddled together. This was the place, the corner, in Lower Manhattan to get the best drugs, everybody knew that—addict or not.

The teen gripped the crumbled money in her pocket, a gift from the police officer who felt the need to check on what was left of her family from time to time. With a kind smile that reached his violet eyes, he’d told her to buy something just for her. Maybe he thought she’d treat herself to some earrings or her favorite ice cream—little kid stuff—but she had lost her childhood a long, long time ago.

Around her, men and women with sunken, scabbed-over cheeks became the norm. The little girl stuck out like a sore thumb but had no intention of remaining an ‘other’ any longer. The euphoric smile on the faces of her neighbors, her deceased parents, and sibling—she wanted that, even for just a little while.

“You got anything?” she muttered to no one in particular.

“You lost, kid?” the young man in the center of the group asked, snickering to his companions.

“I’m not a kid,” she said with defiance. Her face rose higher in the air and she squared her thin shoulders. Even with a mature body, the freckles that littered the bridge of her nose and spread to the apples of her baby face said otherwise.

To amuse her he said, “Okay. So you’re no kid.” He peered at her closer. “But hand to God, I swear I’ve seen your face before.”

            He probably had.

Before their deaths, images of the girl’s parents’ faces hung in neighborhood stores identifying them as regular shoplifters. They had been arrested so many times they were on a first-name basis with their arresting officers.

With her face blazing in embarrassment, the little girl toed the cracked pavement. “I want your best.” Her words came out low and stammering. She wasn’t a kid, and she planned to prove it. “I want the best you have,” she repeated louder then shoved the formerly crisp bills into his face.

            Greed alighted his eyes.

“Yo, man, she’s only a ki—”

“Shut the fuck up,” he yelled at the sole dissenter. “If it’s green, we take it.” He pocketed the money then looked around.

“Hey,” she shouted, taking a step toward him. If he thought he would stiff her, he had another thing coming.

“Relax, kid,” he said with a canny smile. “I wouldn’t do you dirty when your folks were my biggest customers.” His evil laugh chilled her though the air was balmy. “Take a walk with my friend over there.”

The young thug had at least a hundred pounds on her and towered over her by maybe a foot and half. She tucked her chin into her shirt and kept her gaze low, following the boy’s sneakered feet to a nearby abandoned house.

“Stay here.” He looked up and down the street to ensure they weren’t followed before disappearing behind a door that was falling off its hinges. Before the girl had a chance to worry, he was back and shoving a small opaque rectangle in her hand.

Almost too beautiful, the deep purple petal and green stalk painted on the waxy paper dominated the small expanse. She giggled at the ornate flower.

“Take Over. Best shit on the market,” he said before walking away.

Holding the pretty bag against her heart, she turned and walked in the opposite direction.

Avi has a checkered past she doesn’t trust many with her secrets let alone her heart. Through her best friend well only friend Anna she crosses paths with the King of New York Noah Adams. Not used to running in the same circles Avi dismisses him. I mean really who is he except a gorgeous Adonis who oozes confidences and makes her heart flutter? But Avi is much more than meets the eye she has secrets of her own and has issues with abandonment. Noah is more than confident he can break down those walls Avi has put up brick by brick if that’s what it would take to have her.

Noah doesn’t like the word no. He doesn’t take it from his enemies and he won’t put up with it from his woman. Noah is an alpha male in the true sense of the word the only thing is like many dominant characters he has some darkness that rules his life. He is in urban terms a street pharmacist/drug dealer. It’s the only life he knows and because of this life it has made him the ruthless man he is today. Seemingly from two different worlds Avi and Noah have more in common than meets the eye. I will say that I love the fact that Avi made him work for her affection. Although at times she was a little annoying with the cat and mouse game. I just wanted to tell her, “go to him, let him help you.” This book has some very “deep” elements to it. It’s more than just a romance it’s a mystery. You see there is some drug hitting the street a lethal drug, enemies are working behind the scenes and little Avi is right in the enemies sights. Will Noah and Avi new found love conquer their enemies of will Avi run like she has been known to do?

What I loved about this story is that the characters were multidementional and as readers we get to see the characters grow within their relationship. Each character has a connection and when you find out what it is whoa!!! Stay tuned for book 2. If you are looking for a mystery, mixed with some good old fashioned romance this is the book for you. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Ironic By: Harper Miller

Synopsis:

I’ve got a funny story for you. A funny story I need to get off my chest. I can’t share it with any of my friends, so I’m sharing it on a kinky message board full of strangers. Well, it is the Internet. . . .

Although the Internet provides a sense of anonymity, names have been changed to protect the innocent (and not so innocent). Job-related details have been distorted to protect my identity, but despite the ambiguous details, this is a true story. A story very worthy of the acronym FML.

You know how you read something and you just can see someone you know in the story? You just think to yourself that’s so and so because it so funny and spot on? If you know anyone who has tried internet dating and just a single girl going through dating woes this story is laugh out loud funny. I felt like this story was a mix of the shows: Sex and the City, Girlfriends and Catfish.

Mimi is a lawyer who is powerful in her own right but every now and then she gets an itch that needs to be scratched that doesn’t include b.o.b. (battery operated boyfriend). With a fetish for kink it’s hard in her profession to keep her anonymity so she does what many women do online date. Now I have tried online dating and let me tell you Mimi is something else. When she sees something she likes she doesn’t hold back. I know some readers are turned off by the whole sub/dom relationship let me just say although Mimi is a sub she is no one’s pushover. This girl is what my grandmother would call fast or being manish. But really who can blame her when the man looking back at you on the computer screen is anything less than a dream.

Aden talk about a wet dream!!! He is a man who doesn’t beat around the bush. He meets Mimi on this online website and instantly they both are attracted to each other. The banter between the two is epic. I honestly could see a lot of my friends talking like this. What’s so great about this story is that it’s so real and honest. But this isn’t a sappy love story these two enjoy some kink and pushing each other buttons. This was supposed to be a one night stand fake names were added but what happens when it’s just so good you want more?

One of the issues I had with this story is that it was short. And I know it’s a disclaimer that this is a short read but I would like to petition the author to make this a full length novel. Some of the acronyms for the bdsm lifestyle I had to look-up I would have liked for a definition of terms to be added in the book. I had very few issues with this book and would suggest if you are looking for a short read to pass the time that is enjoyable and well edited then one-click this book. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Open Wounds By: Twyla Turner

Sloan & Lexi are back on Twyla Turner’s much anticipated sequel Open Wounds. If you haven’t read book one yet I suggest you do. This book takes place where the last book left off almost like the next scene or day later. When I tell you that this author can write a soul touching book trust you will not be disappointed.

Lexi goodness I don’t even know where to begin her character is so complex. She is struggling with some very emotional issues. i.e. her last relationship was abusive and the demons of her traumatic and haunting past. Here is the low down her father was abusive toward her mother and one day killed the mother and then himself all in front of a young Lexi. (Don’t worry readers I didn’t give anything away this book is so deep that that little tidbit is just the tip of the iceberg) Dealing with all of that she had to endure it’s no wonder she has a hard time opening a heart to love and just life.

Now on to Sloan! He is just what some would call a book boyfriend. Now don’t get me wrong he is a man with problems such as ptsd. He is an ex-soldier struggling like Lexi to find happiness. But it doesn’t come easy for either of them. Threats and secrets from the past come to the surface in this sequel can these two find their happily ever after?

This book is such an emotional read full of deception, and just raw emotion. The reader gets a real look into these two issues like Lexi’s issues with self-mutilation when she feels threatened or goes into a dark place. I can’t even begin to describe all that this book has touched on just that you should definitely one click.  And the way this books ends!!! Goodness. All I know is that the author has stated she will not keep us waiting long for the next book. One thing that I did have an issue with was the grammar issues in this book but the story is so striking that I overlooked a lot of it. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Riding The Waves Teksuen "The Agency" By: Serenity King

You know how in the summer time you want that one feel good read that’s not too complicated but perfect for the beach? Well Serenity King’s new book Riding the Waves is for you.

Josina “Jo” life has not been easy. She is raising her siblings, and is married to her work so when her girlfriends suggest a vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina she is right there. What better way to relax and drown your sorrow than a relaxing trip to the beach? This isn’t just an ordinary beach trip sometimes the past coming back into your life can teach you something about yourself. This is a second chances sweet short read. Don’t get me wrong there is a lot of spice in this story.

Teksusen “Tek” sees her from a distance she’s oddly familiar to him but he can’t place where. Being a man of action he formulates a plan to get to know her better. Jo isn’t as easy catch as Tek once thought she has a very hurtful past and is in the midst of grieving. Never to back down from a challenge Tek sees something in Jo maybe the same thing in his self. Sometimes in life you can’t be so closed off you don’t let love in. I loved that even though this was a short read we get to see the development of these two relationship. Tek shows Jo how to have fun and she opens up emotion in him he never thought possible.

These two have a past so it’s not just insta-love. But I would have liked to see more of that past uncovered and some of how Jo is dealing with her complex family issues being that the story of how she came to raise her siblings was told several times throughout the story. I would have liked a little bit more of a physical description of Jo. With all her family issues she needed relief in the worse way and Tek was just the man to give it to her. The ending was cute and left room open for the next story. I would have liked to know what exactly Tek did and how he and Jo got to the place where love does reign supreme. All in all this was a very good read and I look forward to the next story in this series. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Total Eclipse By: S.K. Hardy

Meet The Author:

SK is a Louisiana native who has written internet short stories since 2009. In 2011, she published her first novel and began her odyssey into the literary world.

SK's erotic novels are full of drama, romance, and unbelievable twists that will engage all five of your senses - they're just that potent. As one reader puts it, SK's books are like an "erotic journey" that you want to "savor in delicious, little bites." She allows you to live vicariously through her work and experience your deepest, most private fantasies while sitting on the edge of your seat anticipating what will happen next.

SK has just gotten started. Take a chance and jump on this ride - if you dare.

S.K. Hardy is back with her last installment in the Sin City Heat series. This last story is what I like to call a bridge story that leads into the next series involving the infamous Pattels. I honestly didn’t even know where to begin with writing this review. I even reached out to S.K. personally to tell her about the rollercoaster of emotion this story brought forth. I love when a story really makes you think and life imitates art. If you have ever lived or experienced heartbreak, betrayal, or just been in love this story is for you.
Darrell Monroe has come a long way but not far enough. His pass demons involving the abandonment of his mother and father have come back to haunt him in a big way. It’s a saying in the African-American community, “you got issues.” Well to say Darrell has issues is putting it lightly. What do you do when the people who birthed you leave you? And all you ever wanted was to be loved but when you find real love it’s snatched from you?
Since his hard upbringing and past Darrell has found his soul mate in Jerra. They have a beautiful life together and child but Darrell can’t seem to let Jerra in to every part of his life. No man is an island and Darrell is just about to find that out. This story is gritty and when I say that it is very real and in your face. S.K. shows you that marriage isn’t always easy and sometimes you don’t always like the person you love. Fans of this coupe brace yourselves because when I tell you they go through it they do. You may think its black and white but this story is told in the “gray” area.  You don’t know who to side with because everyone is hurting. I loved that S.K. went into so much detail about Darrell’s pass and his struggle with abandonment.
Remember I mentioned the infamous Pattels? Well readers you get a healthy dose of who Lorenzo and Tina were and who they are. Tina, Darrells mother is a trip one thing I will say that she is no victim. And I hope in this next installment the author ties up some loose ends involving her secrets. Because in this story I felt a little let down that all wasn’t revealed. There were moments in this story that I had a “aha” moment it all made sense. All the hints from her previous stories were brought to life in this one. I don’t want to give too much a way but this story is really packed with so many characters and everyone has a secret and agenda. Who you think you know you really don’t.
I will say that in this story Jerra annoyed me a little especially with Roni. I wanted to say were you really thinking or is this just hormones? Oh yes readers Roni is back although I wish she would stay gone. Because this story is so long at times I wanted less information about the day to day living and more of the heat this author brings. i.e. less of she went to work and the case and more on how the healing took place. At what point I did ask how did we get here because it was 7 months later and I wondered what happed in that time frame? We were told things happened and I would have liked to see more of it then being told. I would have loved to see more on how Darrell forgave, the kids, his relationship with his father, the death. I thought the Darrell/Jerra forgiveness should have been more than sex scenes. Of course as always I wanted more from the ending it was a lot of unanswered questions but readers we get our h.e.a. and the ending really is bitter sweet. I very much so look forward to the next series. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.
