Wicked Wages Texas vs. Brooklyn 1 By Laquette

Blurb:

Dr. Mandisa Avery is a Brooklyn chemist who's lost sight of her life outside the dreams her late mother left her to fulfill. With too many late nights spent in her office working, she's burned out and desperate for a change.

Slade Hamilton is a Texas businessman who adores ranch life. He'd love nothing more than to spend his days tilling his land. However, his inherent need to protect his family legacy from his hateful father keeps him and his future tied to a desk at Logan Industries.

When a lucrative business opportunity forces their paths to cross, Mandisa and Slade must each make a decision: risk it all on undeniable attraction, or hedge their bets to save their hearts and their respective businesses from ruin.

Will they fold, or will they risk it all on a wicked wager?

This novel is a fun and sexy, 80,000-word, erotic romance. It features a hot cowboy from Texas who meets his smart, fiery competition in the form of a concrete princess from Brooklyn. Place your bets on who's going to win this wicked wager.

Review:

She inherited her mother’s business but she has dreams of her own. Mandisa is head strong but never gets the chance to let go. Slade is straight up Southern Charm after all everything is bigger in Texas. This story started off as insta-lust. You know the girl meets boy in bar they hook up and BOOM. Except this boom has strings attached. These two share more in common than just a physically attraction. Slade wants to buy out Sweet Sadie ( Mandisa cosmetic line), this is her chance to pursue other things but Slade has raised the stakes and offered more than just a business proposal. I loved how the author showed Slade’s background and we got to meet Mama Indy. I will say Mama Indy is like that sweet grandmother that doesn’t play games.

This story contained so many relatable characters that as a reader you wanted to know. Kandi was Mandisa best friend and didn’t mind checking her friend when needed. I for one cannot wait to read more of her and Aaron’s story.

Although Mandisa and Slade have this instant attraction he still has to earn her trust. I loved getting to see these two grow as characters. This is a romance thrown in with a little drama. I won’t give too much away but, Bull is a character who names suites him. I loved how the author had a message in this story and the issue of representation in cosmetics is BIG. This story was fully fleshed and the characters developed. I do wish more from the ending. This story didn’t quite feel finished to me. I felt more from the characters was needed. Hopefully they will make an appearance in the next story. Readers if you are looking for a quick read with a hint of drama, CLICK UP

Approaching the Bench By Chantal Fernado

Approaching the Bench (Conflict of Interest, #3)Approaching the Bench by Chantal Fernando
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When I first read the synopsis of this book I was intrigued. Trinity is a woman that is in a position of power. She doesn’t apologize about who or what she is. Being the youngest judge in her field is an accomplishment. However she has built such a wall around her it’s hard for anyone to see the real Trinity. Enter Callum who is the complete opposite. He is talkative, outgoing and basically an open book.

Even though he is quite younger than Trinity that doesn’t stop him from going after what he wants. One thing that kind of irked me about Trinity is that she was always on the defense. Whenever Callum tried to build a report between the two she immediately goes on the attack about being a woman in a male dominated field. A part of me wanted to tell her to calm down. I will say Callum was a bit forward to be working for her. I kinda liked that he didn’t allow her to run him.

Although I know this book is fiction you really have to suspend your belief in reality for a second. So she gets death threats through the mail from time to time. But doesn’t keep any of the evidence? What if the threats turn out to be serious now you have no evidence and nowhere to start? Oh but wait she knew exactly who it was after some thought. It could have been a little more suspense surrounding that. Both of the characters seemed very young in nature. I would have liked to see more of the legal aspect shown in this book.

I did like the relationship with Callum and Justin. But this book was missing something for me. I didn’t feel a deep attraction between the two characters most of it was on the surface. The interactions between the two felt like a running list of day to day activities. For example when they finally get alone time together it was like what will they do on the farm? When something finally did happen it was short lived. I understand this was a short story but it could have been more developed. I like the concept of this series but most of the women characters seem the same, they love rap ( surprisingly); are curvy and fall for the alpha male. I think Trinity could have been a great character with more development. Although this story wasn’t my favorite in the series. Readers check out the series for yourselves.

This is just my opinion not the gospel

Ante Up By Christina Jones

Happy Valentine's Day!!! If you are with someone or just a single like me its always a reason to celebrate love. I am taking time for some self-care and loosing myself in a good book and a nice dinner. Day 9 in the February Celebration of Love features Ante Up by Christina Jones, Readers I absolutely love this author. She celebrates Black Love and her stories are always captivating.

Synopsis:

I know exactly why it turns you on…because you’re messed up too.
Asha’s life is no fairytale, by any stretch of the imagination. There was no kind, generous father to care for and protect her from the Vegas that exists beyond the glitz and glamour of The Strip. No wise, doting mother to look over and guide her, passing down essential lessons and leading her to the right path. And certainly no Prince Charming just around the corner, ready to rescue her from working late nights to cover steadily mounting bills.

But she’s alive. Overwhelmed with responsibility she never asked for, carrying secrets and scars that haunt her, and singularly focused on an uncertain path to escape, but… alive.
You’re not born to sharks without becoming one yourself.

In Vegas, King is exactly what his name implies. Born into money and influence, but respected – and feared – in his own right. The privileges of wealth have afforded him many things: freedom, power, massive eligibility – while simultaneously leaving him exposed to others: betrayal, exploitation, and manipulation.

But he learned. The tolls of duplicity, wrath, and vengeance have taught him to be more mindful, more shrewd, to keep himself clear of the vulnerability of certain situations, certain business deals, certain places, and certain women.

Women like Asha.
Like attracts like…

Her poker face has kept her alive all this time, and he keeps his cards close to his chest. Neither is interested in gambling their hearts, but when they can’t stay away from each other, there’s only one choice… ante up.

Taffy By Suzette D. Harrison

Day 7 of the February Celebration of Love features historical read Taffy By Suzette D. Harrison.

Synopsis:

Welcome to the sleepy, all-Black southern town of Bledsoe, where Colored residents proudly declare “ain’t nothing white here ‘cept milk and teeth.” It’s 1935. A press-and-curl costs a quarter. Records play on phonographs. And a telephone is a luxury.

Meet twenty-three-year-old Taffy Bledsoe Freeman. She doesn’t need her gift of second sight to know her “mockery of a marriage” to a man twice her age is far from good. After a seven-year exile Up North, Taffy travels down-home to the small town bearing her family’s name, plotting her escape from a marriage not worth the price of a press-and-curl. She only needs to retrieve the son her husband banished to her parents’ care, before boarding a train headed for the Windy City filled with liberty and opportunity. Instead, Taffy stumbles into Roam Ellis: the man Taffy meant to marry.

Twenty-six-year-old Roam Ellis is a “broad-shouldered, hard-bodied” Pullman porter riding the rails coast-to-coast, outrunning the bitter heartbreak Taffy left behind. Now, after a seven-year absence, Roam is face-to-face with his first love. Anger ignites. Old wounds are exposed. But when pain subsides, passion rises, thrusting Taffy and Roam into a hurricane of buried secrets and lies.

Reminiscent of the works of Bernice McFadden, Bertice Berry, and Andrea Smith (The Sisterhood of Blackberry Corner) this Historical Romance is bathed in southern lore and sweeping imagery. Lyrical and powerful, Taffy is a story of restoration and redemption that you won’t soon forget.

Meet The Author:

Suzette D. Harrison, a west coast native and the middle of three daughters, grew up in a home where reading was required, not requested. Her literary “career” began when her poetry appeared in a volume of creative writing published by her junior high school. While Ms. Harrison pays homage to Gloria Naylor, Dr. Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, and Toni Morrison for initially inspiring her spirit and creativity, it was Alex Haley’s Roots (which she read at the age of fourteen) that unveiled the tremendous power and importance of African American literary voices. In addition to being the wife of a university professor and mother of gorgeous children, Suzette is a cupcake proprietor who loves singing gospel-with-a-hint-of-jazz. An elementary school librarian, Suzette is currently working on her next novel…in between batches of cupcakes.

Wayward Love Book Series By Author Love Belvin

Day 5 in the February Celebration of Love features Author Love Belvin. Readers when I first discovered this author I was hooked. While this is a series the authors books are well worth the wait. Book's one and two are listed below.

Synopsis:

She's from a lakeside suburb, padded by two parents, an overindulgent godmother, and all the amenities of affluence they can provide her. But that's not enough. Kennedi wants to experience the full benefits of her femininity at the tender age of twenty-one, a task she takes on at college, and one she’s more than determined to fulfill.

He's an aspiring entertainer from the dark side of the inner city. Survival for Isaak is very much an option he plans to conquer. He has to make it out of his impossible circumstances, and sacrifice is definitely the name of the game, even if it means running the risk of sacrificing one of the most delicate and positively influential bonds he’s ever made.

A social experiment has never been so revealing and frightening for either one of these unassuming individuals. How could two people from the starkest contrast of rearing build an impenetrable bond in just three months? How long will it take for them to dig through their differences to understand those forces that connect them? At what cost will they find harmony to coexist?

Note: This is the first installment of a three book series. It contains expletive language, sexual content, and ends on a cliffhanger. If you do not wish to have these elements in your reads, this is not the venture for you.

Book 2:

Synopsis:

Things went left when they met, and while they were able to form a bond of sorts, it wasn’t what either of them hoped for. Before this wayward love settles for the straight path, there has to be a low. Right?

The wayward connection of Isaak and Kennedi is now under new terms. This new playing field has them both caught in a whirlwind. They’re outside the classroom and in unfamiliar territory; the semester assignment seems a lifetime ago, and now those cultural differences that separated them aren’t enough to keep them from exploring more with each other and about each other.

But to what expense? What’s sacrificed? What will be revealed? How low can love go before it ceases to exist?

Note: This is the second installment of a three book series. It contains expletive language, sexual content, and ends on a cliffhanger. If you do not wish to have these elements in your reads, this is not the venture for you.

Will Sage and Rico find a way to start over and live the life they've been cheated out of for so long? Or will the price they have to pay to extricate themselves from the long arm of Ice's reach prove too high a sacrifice?

BADGE OF HONOR: Sage & Rico is a fast paced, drama filled, erotic romance. Strong language and sexual situations are not suitable for anyone under 18.

The characters in BADGE OF HONOR: Sage & Rico were briefly introduced in BEING BARRON 3: Taylor & Max. However, it is a stand alone book.

Duchess. That’s the nickname Kent Randolph gave Portia when she was a young girl. Now she’s a stunning, intelligent woman—and Kent has learned his share of hard lessons. Blind Expectations By Jacinta Howard

This was my first ever read by this author and certainly wont be my last. This book reminded me of a modern day love jones. By that I mean that the characters Leah and Trevor were just so real. Leah lived in her own world and was the love them and leave them type. Her only constant was Trevor he provided stability and friendship only thing is Trevor saw her as more. I loved that this was a truly developed story and that the author showed love didn't come easy. Trevor had a bit of jealousy issues and Leah could be selfish. But they grew through those issues and developed something solid. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and honestly wish it was longer. I wanted a bit more from the epilogue after all I have been through with this couple.(lol) If you havent ever read this author this would be the book to start. Great job Jacinta!!!

Synopsis:

Aristotle once said the only thing constant in life is change. Or was that Confucius? Whatever. People are fluid—they come into your life for a while, and when it’s time for them to float on, Leah has no qualms waving goodbye. The only exception is her neighbor and best friend, Trevor. When all else fails in her crazy world, Trevor is always there, reliable, steady… real. But what happens when friendship blossoms into something more? Can Leah and Trevor's relationship survive the change? Or will the weight of blind expectations cause them to lose the one thing they love—each other?

His Atonement By Camille Mackenzie

Camille Mackenzie is new to the scene but please believe me this newbie knows how to bring it! I first discovered the author with her first book in the Love Never Fails series called Broken. The synopsis doesn't do the series justice this series runs deep and plays on the emotions. If you are looking for a good book with well developed characters click up! Oh and its on K.U. and Amazon Prime (BONUS)

Synopsis:

Don’t cry for me beautiful. I’m not worth it. I was never worth it. I should have left you alone that night. If I had, none of this would have happened. I would likely be dead, but you my angel, you would have at least been happy. I want to tell Jada this, but I can feel the plastic tube running down my throat. If I think about it for too long, I gag. I am useless. I can’t comfort Jada, but as always I can find a way to hurt her. This. This is what you deserve. So just lie here and take it, Chase. I tell myself this truth over and over until it solidifies in my mind.
