Wicked Wages Texas vs. Brooklyn 1 By Laquette

Blurb:

Dr. Mandisa Avery is a Brooklyn chemist who's lost sight of her life outside the dreams her late mother left her to fulfill. With too many late nights spent in her office working, she's burned out and desperate for a change.

Slade Hamilton is a Texas businessman who adores ranch life. He'd love nothing more than to spend his days tilling his land. However, his inherent need to protect his family legacy from his hateful father keeps him and his future tied to a desk at Logan Industries.

When a lucrative business opportunity forces their paths to cross, Mandisa and Slade must each make a decision: risk it all on undeniable attraction, or hedge their bets to save their hearts and their respective businesses from ruin.

Will they fold, or will they risk it all on a wicked wager?

This novel is a fun and sexy, 80,000-word, erotic romance. It features a hot cowboy from Texas who meets his smart, fiery competition in the form of a concrete princess from Brooklyn. Place your bets on who's going to win this wicked wager.

Review:

She inherited her mother’s business but she has dreams of her own. Mandisa is head strong but never gets the chance to let go. Slade is straight up Southern Charm after all everything is bigger in Texas. This story started off as insta-lust. You know the girl meets boy in bar they hook up and BOOM. Except this boom has strings attached. These two share more in common than just a physically attraction. Slade wants to buy out Sweet Sadie ( Mandisa cosmetic line), this is her chance to pursue other things but Slade has raised the stakes and offered more than just a business proposal. I loved how the author showed Slade’s background and we got to meet Mama Indy. I will say Mama Indy is like that sweet grandmother that doesn’t play games.

This story contained so many relatable characters that as a reader you wanted to know. Kandi was Mandisa best friend and didn’t mind checking her friend when needed. I for one cannot wait to read more of her and Aaron’s story.

Although Mandisa and Slade have this instant attraction he still has to earn her trust. I loved getting to see these two grow as characters. This is a romance thrown in with a little drama. I won’t give too much away but, Bull is a character who names suites him. I loved how the author had a message in this story and the issue of representation in cosmetics is BIG. This story was fully fleshed and the characters developed. I do wish more from the ending. This story didn’t quite feel finished to me. I felt more from the characters was needed. Hopefully they will make an appearance in the next story. Readers if you are looking for a quick read with a hint of drama, CLICK UP

Lies You Tell By LaQuette

Lies You Tell
by
LaQuette
Blurb:
A mob boss finding his dead lover alive six years after her death, shocking.  Learning they’ve got a five-year-old son…deadly.

Six years ago Sanai Ward fled her life in Florida when her lover’s infidelity nearly brings her life to a fiery end.  Scared and devastated, Sanai starts over from nothing, determined to create a safe and happy life for the child she discovers she’s carrying.

Single parenthood isn’t easy. But the joy of watching her beloved Nazario thrive is more than enough motivation to ignore the ache in her heart for the man that shattered her soul.

Dante De Luca is a passionate man who’s had his life stolen from him.  Six years ago he was in love and happy, until his woman was killed in a fire. Sanai was gone.  There was nothing left in the ashes but the locket he’d placed around her neck.  Too angry to deal with his loss, Dante seeks to make the rest of the world pay for his broken heart by forming an unholy covenant with an unspeakable ally.  He knows he’ll live to regret it, but signing away your humanity to the devil seems meaningless when your soul is already gone.

When an accident involving a family member draws Dante to New York, and forces an unexpected meeting between he and Sanai, Dante has to decide what’s more important.  His rage and revenge, or the safety of the woman he once loved and the health of their son?

Just when Sanai’s deception is beginning to sting less, Dante is faced with the fallout of his own lies.  Will she forgive him?  Will they survive them, or will their lives become tragic casualties of the dangerous lies he told?

Excerpt:

Dante smiled as the little man walked off. Something inside him broke. Just those few minutes in the kid’s presence, and Dante felt equal measures of love and sadness.

He felt tears filling his eyes. Dante jumped up from his seat to make his way out of the apartment. Just before he could pull the front door open, he felt Sanai’s hand press against his arm.

“Dante?”

“He’s beautiful. Everything I ever thought our son would be.”

He couldn’t look at her—yeah, it was silly, but he came from one of those households where men didn’t cry, and especially not in front of their women.

“I’m sorry, Dante.”

That fucking word sorry was really beginning to piss him off. She’d used it over and over again today, and somehow he never felt better after she uttered it.

“Whatever, Sanai,” he answered. “You did what you did for your own reasons. I understand those reasons, but it doesn’t hurt any less. Five minutes in front of him was all it took to show me how much I’ve lost. That time with him will never come again.”

He passed a rough hand down his face and looked at her. “I’m not missing another moment. You’d better be prepared for that.”

He didn’t give her a chance to respond. He walked out into the brisk air and headed to the car. He sent a quick text off to Big Tony asking him to meet Dante at their favorite Italian spot near the hospital. Only a man who loved his son would be able to help Dante now.

An omission of the truth is still a lie…..

Dante loved Sanai with everything in him. She was the one, his one, until the fire. He lost everything except the necklace she wore around her neck. Years later he sees that face again only it can’t be her because she is dead. Searching like a mad man to find out whose face it could be that has haunted him, Dante runs into some horrible truths that are a direct result of what he didn’t say.
Sanai had no idea loving someone could hurt so badly. She had to escape after witnessing something such horrible deaths. For her it was the only way out. Only she didn’t disappear by herself she took something of Dante’s and his back to claim them both back.
Sanai never stopped loving Dante so when he makes an appearance back into her life everything is thrown off balance. Finding out about their son Naz has the Don ( Dante) trying to make some much needed changes in his life. But you know the underworld nothing is ever that easy. He has many enemies and some who share his last name. It’s a fight for life and love but Dante is willing to show them all why he is named the Don.

Although this is a mob romance I loved the baby aspect that was thrown in. Naz is sick and his illness brings out the humanity in Dante. No parent likes to see their child helpless. Dante will do anything to keep Naz alive even if it means having another baby.

Some elements of this story were predictable like the two of them coming together to save their child. Although I wish it was a little more conflict or build-up between Sanai and Dante. i.e. after he finds out that she is a alive they end up back in bed together so quickly. After all Sanai has been threw and I know dealing with her son’s illness wasn’t easy but she could have made him grovel. Her best friend had a little more sass when it came to Dante. The author didn’t focus too heavily on the mob aspect this was more a romance story for me. Yes, Dante is the Don but he was with Sanai most of the time.

Dante really annoyed me because as the boss how do you turn your back on your enemies knowing that they will strike (and have already shown you the destruction they can cause)? I won’t give too much a way but let’s just say he has a lot of secrets that eventually come out and they are explosive. I enjoyed the relationship that Dante, Sanai and Naz share and dealing with his illness there were some very heartfelt moments. Dante does have a life back in Florida and a certain someone who thinks they he belongs to her it could be because they share the same last name. Now I know some people don’t like what could be considered an infidelity story BUT this story is not that. Yes he has what could be considered a wife but more like a business partner because the only thing they share is a name. (Don’t let that part discourage you as a reader) I thoroughly enjoyed this story it was fast moving and kept me interested. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.
