The One By Danielle Allen

When I was approached to do a blog tour for Author Danielle Allen I was elated. Who besides me secretly loves reality television? It is nothing like coming home after a hard day and zoning out on a reality show. Ladies believe me when I tell you that this book is a mix of craziness, drama and some laugh out loud scenes. ( Lets face it a dating show with 12 ladies and one man is nothing but entertaining)  Zoe is straight fire! She is sassy and like most of us single girls dating is a struggle especially when you have to do it on camera! Julian the "bachelor" lets just say ladies he doesn't disappoint. This book was a mix of everything you would get on a dating show: drama, heartbreaks and most importantly love. If you are looking for a good read or just an escape please one click this book. Below is a little more about the author and her works.

The cattiness.
The fights.
The shaming.

I don't generally watch reality television, but I definitely don't watch reality dating shows. Besides the fact that it's completely staged, it's a horrible depiction of people -- women especially.

Women are pitted against each other to compete for the affection of a man they "fall in love" with after a week or two.
I call B.S.
It is complete crap.

So when my best friend, Koko, was hired as a makeup artist o the set of the most popular reality dating show, The One, I teased her mercilessly. She told me that if I didn't stop teasing her, she would get me back.
And she did...
Which is how I ended up as a contestant on The One.

When society tries to put you in a box, knock the walls down. –Tati Green

“You have a pretty face” is such a back-handed compliment. It’s like telling me that my face is beautiful, but the rest of me is not.

Despite what society says, my curves are hot.
My love life, on the other hand, is not.

My mom says I’ll never find love because of my weight.
My sister says I’ll never find love because of my personality.
My almost-fiancĂ© says I’ll never find love because I’m incapable of loving anyone.

My mom and sister are full of it, but my ex kind of has a point.

At twenty-seven years old, I’ve never been in love. I date a lot, yet sparks never fly. But when I experienced the heart-pounding, skin tingling feeling for the first time, I didn’t think it would be caused by a guy I’ve never met. And I damn sure didn't think he would end up holding my future in his hands in more ways than one.

Roman Harper is known for being three things:
A talented artist…
A charismatic loner…
And most notably, an unintentional heartbreaker.

Even though he doesn’t mean for women to fall in love with him, Roman Harper has left a string of broken hearts in his wake.  But after a lie tore his world apart eight years ago, Roman doesn’t let anyone get too close to him. Sex is sex and love is…completely out of the question.  Using the past as motivation, Roman pours his heart out onto his canvas.  His heartache inspires some of his best work. And at twenty-eight years old, his art is finally getting the recognition that he’s always desired. But when Roman wakes up on the morning after his successful event with no recollection of who left the cryptic message on his bathroom mirror, everything changes.

Months after a secret admirer shook up his life, Roman Harper has found peace with the past that haunted him for eight years. He’s opened his heart to Bianca Baker. He's made a name for himself in the art world. Life is good…

Until an anonymous package with a cryptic message changes everything.

When it happened before, it ripped him apart. This time around, he has so much more to lose.

Mya Washington is a rebel. Or at least, that’s what her family has always said. As the youngest of a set of triplets, she has always been the more rebellious of the three…even though she never considered herself a rebel.

Outspoken? Yes.

Rule Breaker? Sometimes.

Trouble Maker? Nev—occasionally.

Growing tired of being typecast and misunderstood, Mya moves to New York looking for a fresh start away from the life she grew up in and out of the shadow of her older sisters. Striking out on her own may have put a strain on the family dynamic, but it's the new beginning Mya was looking for.

But after the unexpected death of her mother, she is blindsided yet again by a wedding invitation she didn’t see coming. Her father’s upcoming marriage only cements the wall she’s put up around her heart. Because if her father could be such an utter disappointment, why should she even attempt to open up to any man?

Enter Colton Davis.

Is it better to have loved and lost or to have never loved at all?

Sexy, successful and stylish, Autumn Jones believes in love. She believes in the all-consuming, mind blowing enormity of love. She believes in the euphoric state of loving and being loved. She believes in it because she’s had it once. And when it was lost, she was devastated, but she never stopped believing in the existence of love. Unwilling to settle, she learned from the past and moved on with the expectation that she’ll love again.

Beautiful, talented, and slightly jaded, Summer Wilson believes in sex. She believes in the all-consuming, mind blowing enormity of good sex. She believes that love exists, but Prince Charming does not. At least not for her. She’s seen the downside of love—insanity, heartbreak, infidelity, divorce—and she dates with the expectation that she won’t ever subject herself to that type of vulnerability. Instead, she chooses to love her family, her friends, and her work. And although she enjoys the company of men, her heart is hers and hers alone.

Best friends since elementary school, Autumn and Summer kick off the summer by embarking on a dating experiment. Unfortunately, expecting the unexpected doesn’t prepare them for what the dating world has in store.

Sahara Lee is damaged by grief and guilt.

Ten years ago her world was turned upside down and she never recovered. One decision, one choice, one accident killed the person she was before.

The old Sahara had family, friends, and the love of her life. Now Sahara isolates herself from any and everything she once loved. Immersing herself in fashion, art, and music as a way to escape the pain of the past, she accepts her lonely existence as penance for the role she played in the accident.
That is, until she meets Tyree Barker.

Back to Life reminds you that living and existing are two completely different ways to go through life. Grief will break you but guilt, guilt will destroy you. And once that happens, what can bring you back to life?

When Sahara Lee’s past and present collided, a series of events occurred that changed her life forever, leaving her future up in the air.

As a college freshman, a tragic accident changed the course of Sahara’s life. Ten years later, just when she started putting her life back together, Sahara’s world was rocked again due to a similar accident.

Heartbroken and guilt ridden, Sahara fell into old, familiar habits before quickly realizing that she wasn’t the same Sahara Lee anymore. Unable to live a lonely, loveless, isolated life anymore, Sahara decided that the way she coped before wasn’t going to work this time around.

Time didn’t heal her wounds, but forgiveness might.

Until June By Aurora Rose Reynolds

I absolutely love this series. And am so excited that now we are moving along to the women in the family. Watching them all find there, “boom” is like catching up on the latest family gossip. This story obviously starts with June and Evan. The two were previously married and because of past demons found it difficult to stay together.

June is very sassy. She isn’t the average damsel in distress type chick. Although granted in the beginning of this story she finds herself on the wrong side of the law. I won’t reveal too much but let’s just say June sure can pick them. Because of her situation she finds herself right back in the crossfires of her former husband. Evan is the strong silent type. He’s one to never giving much a way but he loves June fiercely and has gone through great lengths to protect her not only from himself but any other danger out there.

With June & Evan I honestly didn’t feel much of a connection between the two characters. I think it’s because they had this relationship previously and as a reader I wanted more of “flashbacks” of their time together. When we meet the two the relationship is already established and they are trying to find their way back to love. As a reader I wanted more insight on how they got together. Granted the author does about 40% in get down to rawness of why Evan left her. At times I felt like nothing was happening i.e. the intruder incident as soon as it happened it was quickly dismissed. One of the highlights for me was the girls all getting together for a night of fun and laughs.

Although I do enjoy this series this story was a bit slow at times. As I was reading I was waiting for something anything to happen it felt as though it was dragging everything was described including her bedding, the cars, bikes, etc. With the other stories I felt like it was more development and build up with the characters. For instance, in this story Evan gets drunk says some things and June apologizes, gets drunk and they are in bed together and working on one day at a time. For me I felt like something was missing or I just wasn’t getting “connection.” I will say that I am very much so looking forward to Ashlyn’s book. This book may have not been my favorite in the series but it doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a great writer and I look forward to reading the other stories in the series. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Step-Lover By Bella Jewel

You’ll only ever have one forbidden love.

Care to know why?

Because when you find it, forbidden love that is, you’ll forget everything else. You’ll forget your first kiss. You’ll forget the first boy who made you smile. You’ll forget all the bad, and remember all the good. You’ll forget that it’s wrong. You’ll forget that it hurts. You’ll forget everything that came before him.

Forbidden love, it has a way of changing you. The secrets. The lies. The guilt. You want something so much you no longer care about the world around you. The passion takes away the pain. I’ve felt it. I’ve lived it. I didn’t need it, but it chose me.

I met him before I knew. I loved him before I knew.

I didn’t know that he was my stepbrother. I knew I had stepbrothers, but I didn’t know he was one of them. Now I know, I have to walk away. My mom, she deserves this happiness so much more than I do. If she ever knew…it would destroy her.

You have to understand why.

I saw my father die right in front of my tiny, eight year old eyes. He took my sister with him. All that’s left is my mother and I. She’s found her happy place, the only place she’s had since our worlds were destroyed.

So you see, I can’t have him.

I can’t want him.

But there’s this problem with passion, and love, and destiny.

It doesn’t give you a damned choice.

Because I didn’t know what all the hype was over the recent “step-brother” craze I decided to try it out for myself. What better way than to check out a book by an author whose books I have enjoyed in the past. Bella Jewel’s Step-lover is not necessarily taboo but more so two people who found themselves in a very precarious situation of being related through marriage and having an affair.

I had so many questions about this book. It’s not that I didn’t like the book just that there were some missing parts for me that needed filling in. Not to mention the back and forth business between the two characters Blade and Aria.

Here’s the low down…..

Blade and Aria meet without exchanging names have an affair that changes them both and ruins them at the same time. Aria has suffered much trauma and has yet to let go of the pain. Blade well he is a jerk and has his own set of issues. Her mom and his dad are married and they finally meet and it all goes to hell from there.

There is a lot of back and forth in this book. Too much of I love you but I like her. Or we can’t do this it’s our family we can’t hurt them but let’s wreck each other. And honestly the only people who had such a big issue with their relationship were the two and Blade’s brother. They play this cat and mouse game for a good portion of the story. I don’t know what Aria saw in Blade because it was never told in depth in the story and the few raw emotional scenes about her traumatic experiences and her relationship with his brother made me really enjoy this story but their relationship was just too much.

I know the author isn’t American and some of the language used in the story reflects that. The author hardly explains why they have this connection except he awakens something in her and she doesn't have any nightmares when she is with him. Readers are told a lot versus seeing it. The magical weekend seemed nothing more than a fling and its love that fast. Just a little clichĂ© for me. He strings her along and she allows it. It was so many contradictions with these two one minute they are having these long speeches about not being with each other which is the same argument and excuses given throughout the entire book and then one look and they are grinding all over each other.

The author keeps mentioning they aren't related and it isn't wrong. I guess to make it seem less taboo? This story was inconsistent i.e. they agreed to stay away from each other but he offers her a job where they work together day in and out. She suffers verbal abuse and his constant bipolar behavior and still stays.

Not to give anything away but something happens between Blade and Peyton ( His Girlfriend) and his solution is to sleep with Aria (step-sister). It's like he wants her body? She confesses her love his response is I want to sleep with you. After all her trauma about cars and accidents the car game they play doesn't make sense. She says we don't want to have an accident but proceeds to distract him sexually. I guess she got over that 11 year trauma. The twist with Peyton. Why? If what happened to Peyton didn’t happen would he have chosen Aria? He always put’s Aria last as demonstrated throughout the whole book. I'm annoyed with the game it lasted the entire book and the ending left a lot to be desired. I did enjoy the family dynamic with the brothers that was the best part. This book does touch on some very heavy subjects like date rape, bullying, gay bashing that was the best part of the story because it was so raw and emotional the stepbrother storyline just was annoying. Brody (brother) reaction to their “relationship” was odd considering he and Aria had such an emotional connection. I do look forward to reading about the rest of the family in the next book. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

The Vanilla Bet By: Ella Emerson

Synopsis

Trace Weston lives in the beautiful Palm Beaches. A college student who would rather party his life away than accept his father's company. He loses a bet at a college party and has to have a "vanilla" relationship with a girl he has never met.

Vanessa Summers, moved to Florida to attend college for her love of the arts. She also left behind a dark past that haunts her every day. She meets Trace and is instantly taken with his irresistible charm. Will she be able to keep her secrets hidden? Will Trace be able to help her find the answers to what she is searching for? Will they be able to find who and what is trying to keep them apart?

Trace is the popular college playboy. He’s Mr. All American and every girl wants a piece of him but not every girl can have him. Vanessa is the outcast trying to fit in with the socialites but she’s on a budget and wants no part of the superficial life. She’s quite, and very outgoing or is that a part of her allure?

During a poker game a bet is made. Trace has to have a “vanilla” relationship with the unpopular girl. Vanilla being no sex which is more of a punishment because he seems to love the act itself.

A chance meeting…..

Her car dies and Trace gives her a ride. She’s unlike any girl he has ever had. Vanessa isn’t one to jump when a cute guy comes near and Trace enjoys the chase. Can Trace stick to the bet or will this “relationship” turn into something more real?

This isn’t your typical boy meets girl sweet romance the author does provide a little bit of a twist. Vanessa has a secret admirer and like the white knight Trace steps up as her protector. This is a very simple beach read not very complex and enough to keep you distracted. Unfortunately this book was a little to cheesy and young adult for me.

This book is very low heat. Some things didn’t make sense like the notes, the break in and the attack. At what point were the cops going to be called? They confront the culprit and then threaten them with the cops? The person behind these issues has no repercussions for their actions. Huh? Then there is another twist which is a little bit farfetched. The ending was a little cheesy and 90’s B-movies for me. But please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

EXCERPT

He slowly moves his face away from mine and drinks some of his drink.  As he places the glass back on the bar, he says, “I’m Jett.”

“Presley.”

A smile tugs at his lips.  “Your parents are Elvis fans?”

“My mother is and my father is blinded by love.  She could have called me Elvis and he wouldn’t have blinked.”

This inspires a laugh out of him.  “Your parents are still happily married?”

“Yeah, go figure.  How many marriages do you know of that are still going strong after thirty years?”

His eyes twinkle.  “My parents are still happy after thirty-five years.  I guess you and I are like some weird science experiment.  It kinda sucks, really.”

Frowning, I ask, “Why?”

He throws the rest of his drink back, his eyes still twinkling.  “When you don’t come from a fucked-up family, you can hardly blame your issues on your parents, can you?  Nope, you and me, we have to own our fucking issues.”

I burst out laughing.  “You are so right.  Shit, pass me my drink, I can’t cope with this knowledge.”

Shaking his head, he holds my drink away from me.  “Bad idea, sweetheart.  You have no one to blame your alcoholism on except yourself.  I suggest you give up alcohol straight away and find a new vice that’s not as socially unacceptable as alcohol addiction.”

Oh, this is fun.  I raise my eyebrows.  “What do you suggest?”

He doesn’t even hesitate.  “Sex addiction.  Take that shit up.  Much easier to hide from public view.  And a lot more fucking fun than dealing with hangovers.”

“I wouldn’t know the first thing about taking that up.  You think you could help me with that?”

He pulls a face like it’s the hardest question he’s ever been asked.  Nodding, he says, “Sure.  You want to get started now?”

My core clenches at the thought, and I lean into him and say, “You’ve no idea how much I want to get started on that now, Jett.”

He sucks in a breath, and his hand curls around my neck.  “You sure?  Because once I’m finished with you, you’re going to have an addiction that will be hard to kick.”
