How do you find comfort?

Now that Thanksgiving is officially over when can move on to my favorite holiday and season!!! ( que the Christmas tunes) With so much going on in the world we all seek comfort in different ways. For me its in a good book, song or even just friends and family. Remember back in the day it was all those Chicken Soup for the Soul books? Although they were a little cheesy all the stories had meaning and made you feel a little better. Once December hits all I want to do is curl up and read!!! It's always nice just to loose yourself in someone else life or my favorite a good h.e.a. Yea, I know life is tough but that's the point of a good fiction/romance.

Dealing with the loss of loved ones and the holidays we all cling to something that brings us comfort. So what’s your comfort book or go to thing? For me it’s certain authors like Maureen Smith, I know I can always count on her for some good AA romance or Kristen Ashley who offers up a Colorado style alpha male.

Although I have been seriously neglecting my blog, I have a few upcoming reviews and will be sharing some posts from other AA bloggers.

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 15, 2016

At fifteen I fell in love. His name was Jake Stephens and he took the abandoned, lonely girl I had been and made me whole. His love was a pure and unconditional love that made every day better than the last…a fairy tale of my very own.

But this story isn’t about Jake. It’s about Abel Madden; the man I meet after the fairy tale goes to hell. A cocky, arrogant man who says what he wants, does as he pleases, and makes no excuses for it. He irritates me—downright pisses me off at times—but he also brings me back to life.

My name is Sidney Ellis and this is my story of finding love twice—the first when I needed it most and the second when I never saw it coming.

My stomach felt all funny looking at Abel and since my brain was soaked in alcohol none of my mental roadblocks went up. The man really was something else even being rude and cocky. My fingers itched to touch his beard and to trace his lips.

“How’s the arm?”

“Ten stitches.”

“Jesus Christ.” That quickly his demeanor changed to one of incredulity and, I’m pretty sure, disgust. “You’re drunk.”

“Tipsy.”

“What the fuck? You’re a doctor and you’re mixing pain meds and alcohol?”

I snorted, an unattractive sound yes, but it couldn’t be helped. “You’re an ass. You know that, right?”

Surprise, it was quick, but I definitely saw it rolling over his face. “And you’re an idiot. What kind of VMD are you?”

Even drunk, my blood boiled. Prick. “What makes you think I’m mixing drugs and alcohol?”

He glanced at my arm. “Ten stitches.”

“Not that it is any of your business, but I’m not on pain meds. Thank you so much for your concern though.”

It wasn’t surprise this time, but something else flashed in those unusual eyes before he said, “I’m just trying to figure you out.”

“You don’t need to do that, figure me out. Every time I’m near you I want to run away screaming.” Or jump you and kiss that damn smirk off your face. “I irritate you just as much, so focus your energies on the countless women in town who actually want your company.”

“See, now that just sounds like a challenge.”

“Seriously. Did you bang your head recently? You might be suffering from brain trauma.”

He had the oddest expression on his face and then that head dipped back and he roared with laughter. “You have a sense of humor too.”

“I wasn’t joking.”

This only made him laugh harder.

My phone buzzed. Rylee was out front. “I’ve got to go.”

“See you around, Doc.”

“Is that threat?”

“No, babe, a promise.”

“Fabulous.”

He was still laughing when the door closed behind me.

Petty Mondays: Public Opinion

I am going to be a little petty for a moment. Another blogger and I were chatting about how authors expect so much from bloggers but never shout out our blogs for posting, reviewing, or even saying thank you for going above and beyond for free to pimp their books. Its so interesting because you see so  many authors who say they rely on reviews for various reasons well bloggers rely on shout outs as well. Lets be real here most bloggers do it for free sure we get an occasional free book BUT I have always paid for my books so for me its because its something or did enjoy doing. I cannot speak for many bloggers but for those of us who do review diverse( there is that word again) books and to be clear its few of us its alot of work and to not even get a thank you?! What fool would continue to go hard for another person who doesn't have the common courtesy to extend gratitude?

I cannot tell you the many times I have authors in my inbox asking for a spotlight or to share a book release ( which I am fine with) but these same authors never even acknowledge the post or even support us. But you want us to continue to support you? I always say I read across genres and yes I love AA and IR works but majority of my posts are mainstream and that's because when these promotional groups reach out its professional, the posts are in HTML format and the support is visible. Not that all IR and AA authors do this ( I have some AA and IR authors who do support but that list is so very small and they only support when you are doing something for them) and this is to not call anyone out so please don't take offense this is just one persons experience. And on the flip side you have mainstream authors who take advantage. Another thing that really annoys me is that if you are going to send an arc please notify bloggers that you are. Its nothing like opening your Kindle and seeing a random book up there that you didn't request. I love reading but its the other mess that goes along with it that causes burnout and most authors don't realize those ride or die bloggers that once went above and beyond aren't doing that anymore. The few bloggers of color who I have spoken with aren't reviewing and taking breaks and that's sad because the little representation is slowly dwindling down. So what do we do? Somehow a shift occurred and bloggers of color have been demonized ( if you speak out against the sheep/fan girls) or they just aren't reviewing like they used to.  And the same could be said for some authors those old school IR authors aren't in their glory days anymore the market has become flooded with fetish type stuff or you have some really great newbies doing their things and most cant compete.

One last thing please market your books accordingly!!! Don't bill a book as romance and it is anything but. Or the book is urban literature and you are marketing to mainstream readers. You have to know and grow your audience.

Again this is just my opinion and experience.

He stands back and his eyes drop down my body for a moment. “Do you want to play a game?”

I smile.

He picks up the bottle of liquor and leads me by the hand into the kitchen.

“Shot glasses?” he asks.

“Umm.” I try to think where I have seen them. “Top cupboard.”

He gets out six shot glasses and lines them up on the bench and then opens the tequila and fills them all.

I stand still and watch him, my core throbbing and wet from the feel of his cock only moments ago.

“What’s the game?” I smirk.

He kisses me and his tongue sweeps though my mouth before he lifts me to sit on the kitchen bench. Fuck, he’s hot.

“The game is called unshot.”

I frown. “Unshot?”

His mouth drops to my breast through my shirt and he bites my nipple.

“For every shot that I drink, I get to take a piece of clothing off you.”
I smile. I like this game.

“What do I get when I drink a shot?” I breathe.

His dark eyes hold mine. “You get my tongue on you somewhere.”

My insides start to liquefy and my ovaries are chanting skull, skull, skull.

He picks up his glass and tips his head back, drinking it down. His large tongue comes out to lick his lips and anticipation thrums through my body. He puts his glass down and lifts my shirt over my head. I sit on the bench in my black lace bra and skirt and stockings.

He licks his lips again and his eyes drop to my breasts. Oh, I want that tongue on me.

I pick up my glass and drink my shot and he bends to pull my bra back and takes my nipple in his mouth, quickly biting me with a hard suck. I jump and my legs open that bit farther by themselves.

He stands and drinks another shot, licks the tequila from his lips again, and lets his dark, wanting eyes burn holes in my restraint.

Holy fuck, this game is hot.

“Stand up.” He growls.
